Best of Weekly Music Shows: 9/17 to 9/23
Welcome to the fourth installment of the best music performances of the week! U-Kiss, RaNia, SPICA, and She’z made comeback performances while G-Dragon performed another song off his mini-album. Debuts include TOP Media‘s 100% and the European-style group OFFROAD. Below are my personal favorites of the week, but don’t forget to comment with your opinions or your own favorites!
F.T. Island‘s “I Wish,” Mnet M!Countdown, Thursday, September 20rd
Hong-ki opted for a spiky headband rather than his usual tiara, but that didn’t make the performance any less wonderful. Like Paloma last week, I too bow down to his energy on stage. Though this song isn’t my favorite off of their album, the group manages to still rock it on stage. Though is anyone else as amused as I am about how far away Min-hwan is from the rest of the group?
Andamiro‘s “Hypnotize,” KBS Music Bank, Friday, September 21st
Watching these shows introduced me to Andamiro, who is quite the vocalist. Her song is catchy, and she performs with a good amount of attitude. I’ll definitely be looking into more of her music.
100%’s Intro + “Bad Boy,” KBS Music Bank, Friday, September 21st
I don’t know how TOP Media finds those boys like Teen Top‘s Niel who have remarkable vocal control and power during dance steps. While I don’t know all their names yet, 100% has one of them that impressed me. In fact, the whole group seems to be good live. If you’re interested and worried about age, have no fear: their youngest four members are all joining K-pop’s ’93 line.
BtoB‘s “Wow,” KBS Music Bank, Friday, September 21st
Though they sound a little breathy on stage, BtoB is definitely enjoying this song. As a result, I’m enjoying watching them perform it. I also very much appreciate Eun-kwang for his strong vocals that really keep the group going.
VIXX‘s “Rock Ur Body,” KBS Music Bank, Friday, September 21st
VIXX has been promoting this song for a bit, but I still am not over it. It’s fast-paced and seems to end too soon each time, but that’s just because I like hearing and watching them perform it. They tend to have decent vocals and excellent energy on stage. I’m glad they’ve ditched the Boy Scout uniforms for the last few performances.
G-Dragon’s “That XX” featuring Jung Sung-ha, SBS Inkigayo, Sunday, September 23rd
G-Dragon’s singing voice isn’t my favorite, but he does manage to make songs that suit his voice well. The atmosphere of the stage created at Inkigayo–the stars and the rising part of the stage while Jung Sung-ha just sat there and played the guitar–was perfect for the song. It was also nice to see G-Dragon not wearing something outrageous.
